My Lame Dream Wolf Game Stuff

Now that I have a few minutes to spare, I'd like to write a little about a game, which I have never played. But it is the game I was most curious of back in 1994. It is the game I dreamt of.

In said 1994, I was eight, uninformed and poor. I enjoyed computer games very much, but I only had those brought by my father, an increasingly reluctant gamer at the time. He was also the one to bring me few computer and gaming magazines, which I started buing regularly later. But until that time, the few (three or four) computer games magazines he gave me back then were like my bible for about a year. Of all the games I read about over and over, I found 'Wolf' most promising.

What was 'Wolf' about? Living as a wolf. You know, running, hunting, mating, running some more, evading humans, occasionally leading the pack, wolf stuff in general. Basically like 'the Sims', only, you know... more wolfy. Have a look:

What spoke to me so much in this game's prospect was the subject (commanding an endangered, outnumbered and outsmarted animal in its struggle to survive - I was very animal friendly and compassionate at the time) and its seriousness (you know, not the usual heroic, entertaining, hope-building stuff, just... wolf stuff). Only recently I remembered about 'Wolf' and saw a video on its gameplay... I did not expect such a direct control over your wolf! It should all look different! In my mind there will always reamain a mysterious game concept, or a game dream, and all the imagined emotions. Maybe if I was still gaming today, I'd find and play 'Wolf', but I don't feel bad about it remaining only a dream for me.

One more thing: if I liked the game so much, why didn't I just buy it and play the crap out of it? In 1994 I had just learnt that piracy is bad and legal game distribution web exists. I believed that somewhere some rich people could legally buy their games for astronomical amounts of money, but didn't know if it was possible in my galaxy. I started legally buying some of my games around 1996, I think.

If you lasted this far, have a lame pun (or is it an ordinary joke?) as a reward: if everything is coming your way, you’re in the wrong lane.

I also welcome any stories of your mythical or dream game adventures.

  1. 'Maybe if I was still gaming today'. Why the heck aren't you gaming today! As for the wolf game, well I've never heard of it. The premise sounds quite good.

My favorite games of all time is the fallout series. I just love post apocalyptic stuff :3

  4. While I'm still here,

@Leo: I'm currently quitting, so this gamestalgia of mine happens in a platonic manner. Also Fallouts deserve their own post, which I shall write someday.

@-E-: It was created by Manley & Associates, a studio later bought by EA. The game has its own wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_%28game%29

@all you guys up to now and yet to post here: I'll be surprised if any of you has so much as heard of this game. After its review I never saw it brought back by any media. I also forgot to mention that 'Wolf' had a sequel called 'Lion', that depicted a life of... guess it yourselves.

  5. A game from 1994? I don't think I was aware of gaming when I was 2. Don't judge me ^.^

  6. You're right, I've never heard of this one. The screen caps made me lol for some reason. Maybe they just reminded me of the legendary wolf shirt.

  9. My old dream was having 3Dfx in my PC. And I fulfilled that with a Monster 3D card. My favorite game was red alert tho, all 2D.
